Add an AI summary to a report
Have the model write an executive summary at the top of a report, by hand or on a schedule.
In short
An AI summary puts a short executive summary at the top of a report: what changed, the highlights, the risks and recommendations. It uses only the report's own numbers. Switch it on for one run, or keep it on in a schedule so every email starts with it.
Before you start
- Who: anyone who can run the report. A schedule runs as the person who made it and uses that person's key.
- Plan: AI is part of every plan, Free included. On Free the platform's key answers questions about how {{brand}} works. For questions about your own work, add your own key (it is free to add) or choose a paid plan (see /help/ai/answers-left). A summary uses a little of the AI budget when the platform's key writes it.
- First: a saved AI key or the platform's key. A key used for this session only never writes summaries.
Steps
- Open Analytics › Reports and pick a report and, where it asks, a target.
- Tick "Add AI summary". It starts off because it costs a model call.
- Press "Save report", or choose "Run without saving" in the … menu. The summary appears at the top as "Executive summary", with "Written by" and the model that wrote it.
- "Save report" keeps the summary with the saved copy, and "Saved" marks it with a sparkle.
Result: the report opens with its executive summary; Excel, PDF and Word downloads include it.
What it holds
Good to know
- A schedule has its own switch, "Include the AI executive summary", which is on by default. The scheduled email quotes the summary above the headline numbers.
- A scheduled report runs as the person who created the schedule and uses that person's key.
- The model is handed the report with each headline number's previous value and told to use nothing else, so every number in the summary appears in the tables below.
- A key used for this session only never writes summaries; they use your saved Active key or the platform key.
