Bring requests from Insomnia or Bruno
Import an Insomnia export or a Bruno collection with its folders, environments and checks, see a preview first, and undo it from History.
In short
Moving from Insomnia or Bruno takes one file. Folders become groups, environments come along, secrets arrive as secrets, and Bruno's assertions become checks where they can. You see a preview before anything is saved, and History can undo the import.
Before you start
- In Insomnia, export the collection as Insomnia v4 JSON or v5 YAML.
- In Bruno, zip the collection's folder with its bruno.json - or pick one .bru file.
- The file can be up to 10 MB.
- Who: signed in with API Tester on. Importing into an existing project needs Edit on it.
- Plan: a new project counts toward your plan's project limit.
Steps
- Open the chevron beside "New request" and choose "Import a packageā¦" - or, in an empty project, press "Importā¦". You can also choose "Coming from Postman, Insomnia or Bruno?" and pick the tool.
- Under "Import", drop the file or choose it.
- Read the preview and its warnings. Under "Choose what to include", untick what you do not want.
- Press "Import N selected".
Result: "Import complete". The requests are in groups named after their folders, and each environment is ready to pick.
What comes along
Good to know
- Importing the same Bruno files again changes nothing: ids come from the file paths.
- An Insomnia design document is not imported here; import it as an OpenAPI file to get its operations.
- Insomnia and Bruno are import only. To move a project on, export a {{brand}} package, Postman, OpenAPI or YAML files.
- History lists the import with "Undo".
If something goes wrong
- "The file is not an Insomnia export. In Insomnia, export the collection (Insomnia v4 JSON or v5 YAML) and import that file."
- "No Bruno request or environment was found. Upload one .bru file, or the collection's folder zipped with its bruno.json."
- "... could not be read near line N, so it was left out." - fix that .bru file and import again; the others were imported.
- "The archive holds a path that leaves its folder, so nothing was imported." - zip the collection folder itself.
