Paste a cURL command, address or capture
Turn what you paste into search into a request or a project.
In short
Paste a cURL command, an API address, an OpenAPI address or a HAR capture into the search box. Then {{brand}} offers what it can become: a request, or a project of requests. Nothing happens until you choose.
Before you start
- Who: you must be signed in with API Tester on. Importing into an existing project needs Edit on it.
- Plan: a new project counts toward your plan's project limit.
- First: copy the cURL command, address or capture. Nothing is sent or saved until you choose.
Steps
- Press Ctrl+K (⌘K on a Mac), or click the search box in the header, and paste - or drop a .har file on the box.
- Under "Create", choose what it should become, for example "Import the API this address describes" or "Import the requests in this HAR capture".
- For an import, under "Import into", keep "A new project" or pick a project you may add requests to.
- Read the preview: every request it would add, with notes on anything left out. Untick what you do not want.
- For an existing project, choose what happens when a name is already there: "Rename", "Skip", "Replace" or "Merge".
- Press "Import", then "Open the project".
Result: the requests are in the project, and the import appears in the project's Import history.
Good to know
- Imports need you signed in with API Tester on.
- "Undo" in Import history reverses an import while the project still looks as the import left it.
- A project with no requests yet offers "Add a request" and "Import…". "Import…" opens "Import requests" with the same choices as the chevron beside "New request": OpenAPI or Swagger, a file, "Test an API from its address" and "Record a website".
- What happens next: the requests are saved in the project. The import is listed in Import history, where "Undo" reverses it while the project still looks as the import left it.
What stays in your browser
- A pasted command, address or capture is never searched for, so a token inside it goes nowhere until you choose to import or send it.
- A command or address opened as a request travels in browser memory, not the page address, so it is not left in your history.
- A long paste is held beside the search box. Press Backspace or the × to clear it.
If something goes wrong
- Nothing offers to import: you are not signed in, or API Tester is off.
- An import fails: see /help/api-testing/har-and-openapi-imports.
