Switch between board, list, calendar and timeline

See the same cards as columns, a table, a calendar or a timeline, reschedule by dragging, and know what others see change.

In short

The Layout menu shows the same cards four ways: Board (columns), List (a table you can sort), Calendar and Timeline. Filters apply to all four, and a saved view remembers the layout. Pulse and Flow moved to "Insights" (see /help/boards/board-insights). Changes made by others appear on your screen within a moment. On the board, "Swimlanes" splits the columns into rows by person, epic, priority or type.

Before you start

Steps

  1. Open the board. The layouts are tabs at the right end of the tools row; on a tablet or a phone they are one Layout button, which reads "Board" until you pick another.
  2. Choose "Board", "List", "Calendar" or "Timeline".
  3. On the board and the list, press the order button beside them (it reads "Board order") and choose under "Order cards by": due date, priority, title, estimate or one of the board's fields. Choose "Board order" to go back.
  1. Choose "Calendar". Today is marked; use the arrows or "Today" to change month.
  2. Drag a card to another day. It is due that day, and a start date moves with it.
  3. Drag a card from "No due date" onto a day to give it a date, or onto "No due date" to clear its date.
  4. Use "Undo" in the message that appears to put a card back.
  1. On the "Board" layout, press "Swimlanes" at the right end of the tools row, beside the layouts.
  2. Choose "By person", "By epic", "By priority" or "By type". Each lane is the board's columns for one person, epic, priority or type, and the button now reads your choice.
  3. To go back to one board, open the same button and choose "None".

Result: the cards show the way you chose; a saved view keeps the layout for next time.

Live updates

When two people have a board open, a card one drags moves on the other's screen within a moment. Changes from other modules do too, such as a new applicant's card on a hiring board. Every change is saved first. If a signal is lost, the board catches up when its connection returns or its tab comes back to the front.
