Give a card to a coding agent
Let your own coding agent build one card: it gets the card's package and a credential for that card only, and its pull request is judged by tests it cannot change.
In short
"Give to a coding agent" hands one card to an outside coding agent you run, such as one in your editor. The agent reads the card's package - the card, its designed steps, the API contract and its tests - through kamocore mcp. You stay the assignee. On every pull request {{brand}} runs the locked tests on the pull request's preview, and a person merges.
Before you start
- Link a test to the card, or to its designed step. The agent's work is judged only by tests it cannot change.
- Set a "Preview address" on the tests' environment - for API Tester under the environment's "Pull-request previews", for UI Tester under the site environment's "Preview address" - such as https://preview.example.com/pr-{number}.
- Connect the board to the repository so pull requests reach the card. See /help/boards/board-webhooks-and-repositories.
- Who: giving a card needs "Change cards" on the board and your password. You stay the assignee. Whoever gave it, or a board manager, can take the card back.
- Plan: Boards is on every plan; how many cards may have an agent at once depends on the plan (see Good to know).
Steps
- Open the card, open the … menu in its header and choose "Give to a coding agent".
- Read "What the agent gets" and "Tests that judge the work (locked now)".
- Choose where to "Check the preview in" and how long the "Credential lasts".
- Type "Your password" and press "Give to agent".
- Copy the "Credential" and the "kamocore mcp entry" now - they are shown only once - and paste the entry into your coding agent's MCP settings.
Result: the card's "Coding agent" section shows each "Verification round" and the agent's state, such as "Pull request open", "Verifying" or "Ready for review".
Good to know
- The agent has 3 tries and up to 6 rounds a day. "Ready for review" comes on a passing round; the card is Done only after a person merges and its tests pass.
- A credential lasts 24 hours unless you choose otherwise, at most 72. "New credential" stops the old one at once.
- In a run, one agent session may build several small cards with one credential. The agent names the card it works on by its key, and each card keeps its own tests, rounds and Done.
- Tick "Plan first" to have the agent show its plan before its work is judged. See /help/boards/plan-first-start.
- When a locked test changes, rounds stop until someone presses "Lock tests again".
- "Take the card back" stops the credential at once; the card and its pull request stay.
- The Free plan keeps one card with an agent per workspace at a time; paid plans five.
- An organization can refuse coding agents under Settings › Access tokens ("Refuse coding agents"); every agent credential then stops.
- What happens next: the card shows its "Coding agent" section and a "Verification round" for every try. Nothing merges by itself; a person merges.
- To end it: "Take the card back" stops the credential at once; the card and its pull request stay as they are.
Run the agent in a sandbox Run it without production secrets. It can read only this card's package and report on this card.
If something goes wrong
- "Link a test to the card or to its designed step first: the agent's work is judged only by tests it cannot change."
- "No environment of these tests has a preview address yet." - set one in the environment's settings.
- "A locked card cannot be given to a coding agent." / "Only a card of plain work can be given to a coding agent."
- "This workspace does not let coding agents in, or keeps Boards or the Designer from AI. Ask an administrator."
- "No tries are left." - look at the work, then give it a new credential or take the card back.
