Find a board's bottleneck with its flow reports
Four Boards reports: time in each column, created vs resolved, scope change in a cycle, and the cycle time scatter.
In short
Four reports read the history a board already keeps. "Time in each column" finds the column where work waits longest - the bottleneck. "Created vs resolved" shows whether the board keeps up. "Scope change in a cycle" shows what was added or removed after a cycle started. "Cycle time scatter" draws every finished card as a dot.
Before you start
- Who: you need "See analytics" in an organization, and the board must be open to you.
- Plan: Boards and Analytics, which every plan includes.
- First: pick a board and a period. Analytics offers only boards you can open.
Steps
- Open Analytics › Reports and find the "Boards" category.
- Choose a report, such as "Time in each column".
- Choose the "Board" and the period. Narrow by "Assignee" or "Column" if you like.
- Read the numbers, which show at once, and press "Save report" to keep them. Press a point of a chart to see the cards behind it.
Result: for example "Most time spent in Review (card-days)", with a table of the longest stays.
What each report tells
Good to know
- A card-day is each day a card spent in the column during the period, counted once.
- A board has no sprints of its own, so the cycle is the period you choose; it starts on its first day.
- "Resolved" means finished, as the board's flow counts it.
- Time figures show one person's cards only to that person: choose "My cards", Unassigned or everyone.
- The scatter draws the latest 500 finished cards. Example cards never count.
- Save a report's choices as a view, or schedule it by email. See /help/analytics/saved-views-and-drill-down.
- What happens next: nothing is sent. "Save report" keeps the numbers, and a saved view or a schedule keeps your choices (see /help/analytics/saved-views-and-drill-down).
If something goes wrong
- "Time figures for one person are shown only to that person. Choose your own cards, Unassigned, or everyone."
- "No column held work in the period" - no card stayed in a counted column; choose a longer period.
