Import cards from a file

Bring cards in from a spreadsheet, a Trello board, or a Jira, GitHub or Asana export, check a preview first, and undo the whole import in one step.

In short

Import turns the rows or cards of a CSV, Excel, Trello or Jira file into new cards on a board. You see a preview first and nothing is added until you press "Import". The whole import can be undone in one step.

Before you start

Steps

  1. Open the board's ... menu and choose "Import cards". The arrow beside "Add card" offers it too, and so does Board settings › "Connections" › "Imports".
  2. Drop a file on the box or choose one. Change "Kind of file" if it was guessed wrong. "Download an example file" gives a CSV with every column read.
  3. For a CSV or Excel file, check "Columns in your file": each card value, such as Title, Description or Due date, is read from the column you choose. Set a column to "Not imported" to leave it out. You need at least the Title.
  4. Press "Preview" and read it. It shows which cards go to an existing column and which to a New column. It also shows who was matched, the first 20 cards, the rows left out and why, and the warnings.
  5. Press "Import".

Result: a message says how many cards were imported and how many new columns were made.

Good to know

Undo an import

Board settings › "Connections" › "Imports" lists each import: the file, who ran it, how many cards it made and how many rows were left out. "Undo" takes the whole import back in one step: its cards are archived, and the columns and the labels it made are removed while no other card uses them. Cards that were on the board before are untouched. An import that is undone cannot be undone again.
