Read progress, pace and health
What the three numbers on a card mean, where each comes from and how to change the board's thresholds.
In short
Every card carries Progress (what is done), Pace (what should be done by today) and Health (one word for the gap between them: On track, Watch or At risk). The colored edge of every card shows its health. You can change where the numbers come from and the gaps that decide health.
Before you start
- Who: anyone who can open the board reads progress, pace and health. Changing how a card counts needs "Change cards"; the board's thresholds need "Create and manage boards".
- Plan: every plan.
- Defaults: the gaps are 10 and 25 percentage points. Progress starts as "Automatic".
Steps
- Open Board settings, then "Sizing" ("How do you size and track work?").
- Set "Watch when behind by more than" and "At risk when behind by", in percentage points.
- Press "Save calculation". Every card is calculated again.
- Open the card and find its "Progress and health" group.
- Press "Change how it counts". Choose "Progress from" and "Pace from", or under "Health" choose "Set health by hand" with a health. Press "Done".
Result: the card's edge and health dot show the new health.
The three numbers
Good to know
- Health is Done at 100%. Otherwise it compares progress with pace in percentage points. Behind by no more than the watch gap is On track. Behind by less than the risk gap is Watch. Behind by the risk gap or more is At risk. The defaults are 10 and 25 points.
- Example: a card is 40% done and its dates say 60% should be done. It is 20 points behind: more than 10, less than 25, so it is Watch.
- Each card follows its card type, then the board. A type sets its own sources under Card types; a card overrides both.
- A card face shows progress only when children, a checklist or a typed value measure it. It shows the health dot when a card is Watch or At risk or its health was set by hand.
- Changing the thresholds needs the manage permission on the board.
- What happens next: after "Save calculation", every card is calculated again, and the colored edge and the health dot change at once.
If something goes wrong
- "Gaps are percentage points: 0 or more for watch, above watch and at most 100 for at risk.": make the risk gap larger than the watch gap.
- "Progress is a number from 0 to 100.": type a number in that range.
- A card's health never changes: it was set by hand. In its "Progress and health" group, press "Change how it counts" and under "Health" choose "Follow the calculation".
