Edit a card

What a card holds, how to assign it and get notified, and where its history is.

In short

Click a card to open it as a panel over the board. On top are its column, Owner, Due date and Priority. Below come the description, one "Needs attention" line when something waits, and previews of the checklist, child cards and comments. The tabs hold the rest, and changes save automatically.

Before you start

Steps

  1. Click the card. It opens as a panel over the board.
  2. Change the column, "Owner", "Due date" or "Priority" with the four large controls on top.
  3. Write the description. Under it, "Checklist 2 of 5 done" and the child cards and comments previews each open their tab.
  4. Open the tabs for the rest: "Overview", "Sub-items" (the checklist and child cards), "Related" (links and tests, files, other products' panels, Planner, Notes and Suggestions) and "Activity" (comments and history). Whether your last change is saved shows at the top of the card, beside the bell.
  1. Open the card, open the … menu in its header and choose "Lock the card" (board managers only).
  2. Add "Why" if you like. It is kept with your name and the date.
  3. Press "Lock the card". To take it off, press "Unlock the card".

Result: everything saves at once. If you assigned someone else, they are notified and start watching the card.

Good to know

History

The "Activity" tab holds comments and history. "Show in Activity" filters All, Comments or History. History records changes to the fields above, checklist steps, comments (never their text) and files. It also records links, a followed check turning red or green (by its kind, never its name), archiving and restoring, and bug and story events. Filter by "Field", "Person", "From" and "To". It is for reading, never for undoing.

When someone else changed the card

Two people can have the same card open. When someone saved it after you opened it, your change is put together with theirs: a field only one of you changed keeps that change, and you are not asked anything.
