Export a design and its implementation prompt
Export one design or a design with its linked designs as pictures, data and documentation, and build an implementation prompt that says what is verified.
In short
Export a design - alone or with its linked designs - as pictures, data or documentation. For a workflow, the implementation prompt writes it out for a coding assistant. It is built from the design and says what is verified by a passing test. Each card the plan makes also carries its own build brief.
Before you start
- Who: anyone who can open the design exports it. "Polish with AI" needs AI: your allowance or your own key.
- Plan: Designer is part of every plan, Free included. The Free plan limits how many designs a workspace keeps; Plan & usage shows the limit and what you hold.
- First: for the prompt, make the plan so each action has a requirement and a status.
Export a design
- Press "Export" in the design's toolbar.
- Choose from "Picture", "Documentation" and "Diagram as code" - for example "Image (PNG)", "Documentation (PDF)" or "Copy as Mermaid".
- Or, under "With linked designs", choose pictures (ZIP), designs and components (JSON) or documentation.
Each choice in the "Export" menu, and what it holds, is described in /help/designer/export-a-design.
Build the implementation prompt
- Press "Create the plan" in the workflow's toolbar.
- In the "Brief" row, press "Open the whole workflow's prompt".
- Write the open questions and what is out of scope in the prompt's window; they are saved with the workflow.
- Optionally press "Polish with AI" and read the difference line by line before you use it.
- Copy the prompt, or download it as a Markdown file.
Good to know
- Linked designs are the workflows it runs as sub-flows, the designs it refers to and the architectures that draw its components - only those you may open, at most 20.
- The prompt is built without AI. It holds the context, one requirement per action, Given / When / Then criteria for every journey, the constraints, the verification status, the open questions and what is out of scope.
- Nothing is called Verified without a passing test: refer to an API, SQL, cache or UI test from the step to give it evidence.
- Polish with AI keeps the acceptance criteria and verification status exactly as built, and marks anything the design does not say as AI suggestion - not in the design. Only the prompt is sent, and it counts against your workspace's AI allowance.
If something goes wrong
- "Build the prompt first.": open the whole workflow's prompt before polishing.
- "Only a workflow's implementation prompt can be polished."
- "A prompt is at most … characters.": shorten the open questions or out-of-scope notes.
