Prove a feature works and export its trace
Make a frozen proof of a feature - steps verified, cards and sign-offs - share it by link, and read its full trace on screen or download it as Excel or Word.
In short
"Prove it" freezes a feature as it is now: how many steps are verified, the plan's cards, the sign-offs and approvals - in counts only, with a fingerprint. Share it with a link, copy it as Markdown or print it. The trace is the full list behind it: every step with its card, tests, results, release and signed version. Read it on screen under Review › Trace, or download it.
Before you start
- Who: only people who manage the design share proof links.
- Plan: Designer is part of every plan, Free included. The Free plan limits how many designs a workspace keeps; Plan & usage shows the limit and what you hold.
- First: make the plan so steps have cards and tests (see /help/designer/create-the-plan).
Steps
- Open the workflow, choose "Review" and then "Sign-off and proof".
- Under "Prove it", press "Make a proof".
- Read the line, such as "7 of 12 steps verified · 1 failing · 2 never tested".
- Press "Share link" to make a link (it is copied), "Copy Markdown", or "Print".
- Under "Trace", press "Download as Excel" or "Download as Word".
Result: the proof page shows the figures, sign-offs by role and the fingerprint; the trace file is named after the design.
- Open the workflow, choose "Review" and then "Trace".
- Read each step's "Requirements", "Card", "Tests" and "Result": "Verified", "Failing", "Passes on a mock" or "Never tested". The line above the table names the version and whether it is signed off.
- Type in "Find a step or a requirement ID" and press Enter. A long workflow comes 50 steps to a page.
- Press a row to show its step on the canvas, or its card to open it on its board. Press "Download the workbook" to keep the trace as Excel.
Good to know
- "Fingerprint matches" says the proof was not changed after it was made.
- A step that passes only on the mock is counted apart and never as verified.
- Records you cannot open are counted in the trace, never named.
- Only people who manage the design share proof links. "Revoke link" stops a link at once.
- What happens next: the proof is frozen and fingerprinted; making another later never changes the first. "Revoke link" stops a link at once.
- "Open the traceability in API Tester" shows in the trace when the plan made an API Tester project.
- The trace on screen covers a workflow of any size; the downloaded workbook stops at 500 steps.
If something goes wrong
- "The print window could not open. Allow pop-ups for {{brand}} and try again."
- Every step is "never tested": the plan has no tests yet, or they have not run. See /help/designer/create-the-plan.
