Make a design from a photo of a diagram

Choose a photo of a whiteboard or a screenshot of a diagram, and let AI read it into a design you check first.

In short

Photograph a whiteboard, or choose a screenshot of a diagram. AI reads it and proposes an architecture or a workflow. You check what it drew and then make the design. The picture is sent once for reading and is not kept.

Before you start

Who: In an organization you need "Create and change designs" (an Organization Admin, Manager or Member holds it). A Viewer holds "See designs" and can read designs and the catalog. In your Personal Workspace you do everything on your own designs.
Plan: AI work needs a paid plan or your own AI key under Settings › AI. Reading a picture uses your AI allowance, as generating a design does.
First: a PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF of at most 5 MB. Your organization's AI rules apply.

Steps

On the Designer home press "Import" and "Choose a file", or drop the picture on the list. Use a PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF of at most 5 MB.
Wait while the picture is read. The dialog says "AI read this picture." and tells what the AI saw.
Check the design the dialog shows and the "Import report". A photo can be read wrong.
Give it a "Name" and press "Make the design".

Good to know

Reading a picture is AI work. It needs a paid plan, or your own AI key under Settings › AI. It uses your AI allowance as generating a design does.
The AI decides whether the picture shows an architecture or a workflow. The design keeps the kind it chose.
The file's real type is checked, not its name.
A sharp photo taken straight on, with readable words, reads best.
Your organization's AI rules apply to this reading like any other.
To add a picture's content to an open design, use "Merge a file into this design". You see a preview first.

If something goes wrong

"Reading a picture is AI work. On this plan that needs your own AI key." - add your key, or draw the design.
"Reading a picture needs AI, which is not set up here." - press "Open AI settings".
"The AI could not read a diagram in this picture. Try a sharper photo, or draw it."
"This is not a PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF picture."
"This file is too large to be a design." - shrink the picture to 5 MB or less.
