Switch between the simple and the full editor
Work on a feature's design with only the drawing and one next step, and switch to the full editor when you need every menu.
In short
The Designer has two editors. "Simple" shows the drawing, the feature's Changes beside it and one next step. "Full editor" adds the canvas and outline switch, Zoom and the menus Review, Show, Export and Panels. A design opened from a Feature card starts simple, with "Back to the card".
Before you start
- Who: anyone who can open the design. Drawing needs Edit.
- Plan: Designer is part of every plan, Free included. The Free plan limits how many designs a workspace keeps; Plan & usage shows the limit and what you hold.
- First: to start from a feature, its board needs a design connected. See /help/boards/design-a-feature.
Steps
- Open the Feature card, choose its "Design & plan" tab and press "Open in Designer". The design opens in the simple editor, on the feature's Changes.
- Draw what the feature needs. "Add", "Undo", "Redo" and "Share" stay in the toolbar.
- To reach every menu, choose "Full editor" in the toolbar. Choose "Simple" to go back.
- In the simple editor, press "Back to the card" to return to the card.
Good to know
- A design opened any other way opens in the editor you chose last, kept for you on this device.
- In the simple editor a Component detail shows its sketch, and on a phone a design shows its outline.
- Without a card, the simple editor's one main button is the design's next step, such as "Create the plan".
- On a narrow screen the switch is a menu named after the editor you are in.
- Switching changes only what you see. The design stays as it is.
If something goes wrong
- A menu such as "Review" is missing - you are in the simple editor. Choose "Full editor".
- There is no "Back to the card" - the design was not opened from a Feature card, or you are in the full editor.
