Walk through a workflow and its journeys
Follow a flow by hand, choosing a branch at every decision, and see every journey from start to end.
In short
Walk through a workflow by hand, choosing a branch at every decision, to check it reads right. Journeys lists every way through the flow, and the ones you name become its acceptance scenarios.
Before you start
- Who: anyone who can open the workflow.
- Plan: Designer is part of every plan, Free included. The Free plan limits how many designs a workspace keeps; Plan & usage shows the limit and what you hold. Journeys use no AI.
- First: finish the flow with at least one success or error step so there are journeys to walk.
Walk through a workflow
- Open a workflow, choose "Review" and then "Walk through".
- Press "Start walking". The panel shows the step: who does it, the permission it needs, its inputs with their rules and its outputs.
- Choose where to go next - the next step, a condition, otherwise or an error path. The steps you walked light up on the canvas.
- Go back one step to try another branch, and finish at a success or an error.
Use journeys
- Open the "Journeys" tab: every way from a start to an end, with how many end in a success and how many in an error.
- Press "Show on the canvas" to mark a journey's steps, or "Walk it" to start a walkthrough at its beginning.
- Name the journeys that matter. Named journeys are the flow's acceptance scenarios.
Good to know
- Journeys are worked out without AI. Each loop is taken at most once, and the list stops at 200 journeys.
- When the flow changes so a named journey no longer exists, it says so and you can forget it.
- The AI implementation prompt turns every journey into Given / When / Then acceptance criteria.
- "Present" under "Show" shows each journey with its steps lit up one by one. See /help/designer/present-a-design.
- A named journey can become a draft UI test. See /help/designer/draft-ui-tests.
If something goes wrong
- "Add a start step to walk the flow.": a flow needs a start step before you can walk it. Use "Start at" to choose between several.
- "This step leads nowhere. Connect it, or make it a success or an error.": connect the step to the next one.
- "The flow changed under this walk. Start again to follow it as it is now.": press "Start again".
- To go back one step, press "Back one step". To end the walk, press "Stop walking".
