Choose where your work belongs, then follow the path that fits: on your own, testing with a team, coordinating work or hiring.
In short
Pick where your work belongs before you create anything: your Personal Workspace for work you own, an organization for shared work. Then follow the path that fits - on your own, testing with a team, or coordinating work and hiring. Examples let you look around before you start.
Before you start
- Who: anyone.
- Plan: every plan, Free included. A goal is missing from the welcome dialog when your plan does not include its module.
- First: sign up. Your Personal Workspace is there from the start; make an organization when the work is shared.
Choose where your work belongs
- After you sign up, the welcome page asks "What brings you here?". Pick one or more cards; the first you pick is where you start, and the switch "Add examples so I can try right away" adds their examples.
- Check the workspace in the header. What you create belongs to the workspace that is active then.
- For shared work, create the organization, invite members, add teams if you need them, then switch to the organization before you create projects or boards.
- On Home, the "Get started" tile lists the first tasks of the card you picked first. Press "Do it with me" on one; it ticks itself the moment what it says is true. A later step stays beside it as an offer, never a condition. "See your examples" opens the first product that holds examples.
Explore on your own
- Stay in your Personal Workspace and choose the products you want in "Settings" › "Products".
- Send an API request, try SQL Tester, Cache Tester or UI Tester, or create a personal board for a task.
- When the work needs colleagues, create an organization and switch to it before you make anything shared.
Test software with a team
- Create an organization, invite colleagues and shape its teams. Switch to the organization workspace.
- Create an "API Tester" project and file it under a team: it starts open to that team. Save requests and runs there.
- Create a SQL Tester project for database checks. Filed under a team it starts open to that team; filed under none it starts private, because it holds a database credential.
- Create a board and connect an API project, so a failed run becomes a card with the run as evidence.
Coordinate work and hire
- Create an organization, invite people with the roles they need and create a team for each stream of work.
- Switch to the organization, create a board under a team and add cards. Its team can work on it at once; share it with anyone else who needs it.
- Open "Planner" to see dated work and decide what needs attention this week.
- To hire, post a role in Jobs & hiring and follow applicants on its hiring board. By default administrators and managers post for an organization.
Good to know
- Joining an organization later does not share your personal work.
- A new project or board filed under a team starts open to that team; Share opens it wider or makes it private. The line under its name always says who can see it.
- Examples are marked "Example", and removing them never touches anything you made. Later, Settings › Examples shows each example as Added, Partly added or Not added, with "Add the example" or "Remove the example", and "Remove all examples". In an organization only its owner changes them.
- To see a whole organization at work - teams, made-up people in different roles, their work already filed - choose "Explore an example company" in the workspace menu. "Remove the example company" takes it away again.
- "Customize" on Home brings the Get started tile back if you hid it.
- When every task is finished, "Next: your path" opens your learning path in Help. See /help/home/your-path.
- To change your mind about a goal or an example, use Settings › Products and Settings › Examples.
If something goes wrong
- You made something in the wrong workspace: it stays there. Recreate it in the right workspace, or see Workspaces and ownership.
- A goal is missing from the welcome dialog: your plan does not include its module.
