Start from a template or switch on a recipe
Make a working board, suite, check, plan or design from a ready template, or switch on an automation.
In short
A template makes something that works the moment you use it, on example data that is safe to change. It can be a board, a test suite, a data check, a plan, a design, a role and more. A recipe is different. It is one switch for an automation that starts working as soon as it is on. Both are on the Templates page.
Before you start
- Who: anyone signed in with the product on. Recipes are read-only for people who may not change them, and the page says why.
- Plan: a template is made like anything you make by hand, so your plan's limits apply. It is made whole or not at all.
- First: choose the workspace in the header; "Goes into" shows where it will be made.
Steps
Use a template
- Open "Templates" in the workspace menu, or "Start anything" at the foot of the Products menu. Each product also offers "Start from a template" or "Use a template" where it is empty.
- In "Show templates for", pick a product, or keep "All". "Search templates" finds one by name.
- Press "Use template" on a card. "What is inside" shows what it makes.
- In the sheet "Use ...", check the "Name" (filled in) and "Goes into" the workspace, then press "Create" - or "Open" for a report or an assessment.
Result: it is made and opens, ready to run or to read. A plan template adds its items to your calendar from today; a report or an assessment only opens, and nothing is saved until you save it.
Switch on a recipe
- On the Templates page, open "Recipes" in the switch "Templates and recipes". The page is titled "Automations you can switch on".
- In an organization, "For the whole organization" lists its recipes. For a board, pick it under "Board": "On a board" lists that board's recipes.
- Turn a recipe's switch on. It starts at once; turn it off and it stops.
Result: the recipe works by itself. Nothing is deleted when you switch it off.
What each product offers
Good to know
- A template is made the way you would make it by hand: your plan's limits and your access apply, and it is made whole or not at all.
- Templates for the testing products point at the built-in sandboxes, so a fresh account gets a first real result. Point them at your own system afterwards.
- An intake form template makes its board and a form open to your workspace only; a public link is a later, deliberate choice.
- Recipes are read-only for people who may not change them, with the reason shown. A workspace without a board is told to make one: "Make a board".
If something goes wrong
- "... could not be used.": the template could not be made, often because a plan limit is full. Free some room or change the plan, then try again.
- A product is missing from "Show templates for": it is off for you or your plan leaves it out.
- No recipes listed: none is offered in this workspace yet.
