Send a candidate an assessment
Pick a ready SQL or API assessment - or write your own - and send it from the application; it is graded by running the answers, never by AI.
In short
An assessment checks a skill the same way for every candidate. The assessment library holds {{brand}}'s ready SQL and API assessments and your team's own. Send one from a candidate's application: they read a notice first, and the clock starts only when they press Start. Answers are graded by running them - never by AI.
Before you start
- Who: the people who manage hiring send assessments.
- Plan: assessments are part of Jobs. Work samples have a monthly count of their own (see /help/jobs/hire-by-real-work).
- First: for your own assessment, prepare the sample data and the answers.
Steps
- Open the applicant and choose to send an assessment.
- Under "Assessment", choose one from "{{brand}}" or "Your own".
- Press "Send assessment".
- Open Jobs › Hiring, choose "More" and then "Assessments" (the "Assessment library").
- Press "Write an assessment". It opens as a page of its own; choose the "Kind": SQL or API, and press "Save" in the title row when it is ready.
- Fill in "Title", "What it covers", "Time limit (minutes)" and "Pass mark (%)".
- For SQL, give the "Sample data"; for each task, "What to do" and "The answer" (it is run on the sample data before saving). For API, give "Checks the response must pass".
- Press "Add a task" for more, then save.
Result: the candidate gets a link. Their result - tasks passed and the time taken - shows on their application.
Good to know
- Each card in the library shows its facts, such as "6 tasks · 45 minutes · pass mark 70%".
- A ready assessment can verify a skill on the candidate's profile; your own never does.
- A candidate takes it once, before its deadline. They can ask for another format or more time through the notice.
- Deleting an assessment leaves candidates already taking it their attempt.
- To judge real work instead of answers, see /help/jobs/hire-by-real-work.
- A candidate's assessment result has a "Download" menu with Excel and PDF: counts and pass marks only, never the answers.
If something goes wrong
- "No assessments to send" - none of the ready ones can run here yet, and your organization has none of its own; write one.
- "Give it a title and complete every task."
