Restore an earlier version of a note
See a note's history and restore a version, and use the details panel.
In short
Every save of a note is kept as a version. Open its history to see who saved what and when, and restore an earlier version without losing the current one.
Before you start
- Who: anyone who can read the note sees its history.
- Plan: every plan. The newest 50 versions are kept.
- First: open the note and press "Show details".
Restore a version
- Press "Show details" on the note and choose "History".
- Versions are listed newest first, with who saved them and when. The first ten show; "Show all" lists the rest.
- Press "Restore" on the one you want. It becomes the current text as a new version, and Undo is offered.
See what a version changed
- Press "Show details" on the note and choose "History".
- Press the compare button beside a version.
- "The version before" shows what that save added and removed. "The note now" shows everything that changed from that version to the note as it is today.
- Removed parts are struck through, added parts are marked, and long stretches nobody changed are folded - press one to open it.
- To go back to that version, press "Restore this version". Restoring saves it as a new version, so nothing is lost.
The details panel
Good to know
- The newest 50 versions are kept. Pinning, favorites and archiving do not make a version.
- Restoring never overwrites: the old text becomes a new version on top.
- The assistant can read a note unless its notebook is private to someone else.
If something goes wrong
- "Version … of this note does not exist.": it was older than the 50 kept.
