Accept an invitation or join an organization
Answer an invitation, join by email domain and take your first step.
In short
An organization can invite you in the app or by email, or let you join because your email domain matches. Accepting makes you a member at once, with the role and team the invitation names. Your workspace then switches to the organization.
Before you start
- Who: anyone who was invited, or whose confirmed email domain an organization has proved and allows. You need an account to accept.
- Plan: none for you. The organization's plan decides how many members it may hold.
- First: sign in with the address the invitation was sent to.
Steps
- Open Organizations. Pending invitations are under "Waiting for you".
- Check the organization or team name and who invited you.
- Choose "Accept" or "Decline".
- Open the link in the message.
- Sign in with the invited address.
- Check the role and team you will get, and choose "Accept and join".
- Open Organizations and look under "Colleagues already here".
- Press "Join" beside the organization.
Result: you are a member, in the team the invitation named or the organization's default team, and your workspace moves to the organization.
Decline and stop invitations from an organization
- Open Organizations. Under "Waiting for you", open the invitation's menu and choose "Decline and stop invitations". The same choice is offered on the invitation page you reach from an emailed link.
- Read the dialog, which says "This invitation is declined, and" the organization "can't invite you again until you allow it in Settings. They aren't told." Confirm with "Decline and stop invitations".
Result: the invitation is declined and the organization can't invite you again until you allow it. They aren't told. A message says "Invitations stopped".
- This is offered for an organization's invitation, not for an invitation into a team.
- To allow it again, open Settings and find "Stopped invitations". Each row shows "Since" a date. Press "Allow again", and "That organization can invite you again." confirms it.
Good to know
- The inviter is told when you accept.
- The role is granted a few seconds later by a background step. If a permission seems missing, wait a moment and reload.
- An emailed invitation listed under "Waiting for you" can only be declined there; accept it from the link.
- "Colleagues already here" lists organizations whose allowed domains match your confirmed address and that allow joining on your own. You join with the organization's default role, with no invitation or approval. An unconfirmed address finds nothing.
- Joining gives you one first step on Home under Needs you while the organization is your workspace. The step is to open the team's board, run the shared API collection, say hello in Chat or meet the team. Choose "Start", or "Not now". You get it once per organization.
If something goes wrong
- The link says it is no longer valid: it was used, revoked or expired after seven days. Ask the inviter to resend it.
- You signed in with another address: an emailed invitation works only for the address it was sent to. Sign in with that address.
- Someone an administrator removed cannot rejoin through an old link, only through a new invitation.
- Nothing shows under "Colleagues already here": confirm your email address first, or the organization does not allow joining by domain.
