Read capacity, load and the burndown
Compare each person's hours with the work they hold, and follow the burndown.
In short
Time available and planned compares, for each person in a cycle, the hours they have with the estimates of the open work they hold. The burndown follows what is still open against an ideal line.
Before you start
- Who: anyone who can see the cycle reads the bars. Setting capacity changes the cycle, so it needs the right to change it.
- Plan: Planner is part of every plan, Free included. Your plan caps the open items, calendars and cycles a workspace holds (Plan & usage shows them).
- First: put entries with estimates in the cycle. Load looks too low when entries have none.
Set capacity
- Open the cycle and press "Edit capacity".
- Set each person's hours.
- Press "Save capacity". A bar past 100 percent turns red.
Read capacity and the burndown
Each person's bar shows the estimates of the open entries they own or are assigned, against their hours. The burndown draws the minutes still open against an ideal line.
Good to know
- Days off and organization holidays inside the cycle take eight hours each.
- When a bar is red, the fix is to move an entry, not to work longer.
- A card counts by its estimate in points and adds nothing to hours-based load; see Plan a cycle in points.
- The burndown is written from a daily snapshot, so the line appears from the cycle's second active day; before then the chart says when it will start.
If something goes wrong
- "Capacity cannot be negative."
- "Choose a member whose role can manage calendars and cycles."
- Load looks too low: entries without an estimate add nothing.
