Set plan limits and temporary limits
Switch limits on, lower them safely, and add promotions or grace periods.
In short
A plan's Limits tab sets every ceiling the plan enforces. When you lower one, the console asks what people keep. Temporary limits - a promotion, a grace period or a Beta - raise limits for everyone on a plan for a while.
Before you start
- Who: only a site admin. The Admin console is in the avatar menu of a site admin and nowhere else.
- Plan: raised limits only add; nobody loses what they hold.
- First: decide whether a lowered limit needs a grace period or a kept value.
Set a plan's limits
- Open "Admin console" › "Plans" and edit the plan.
- Open its Limits: Usage (per hour, day or month), Storage, Processing and Counts of what a workspace holds.
- Switch a limit on and type the ceiling, with sizes in MB or GB. Leave the number empty for unlimited.
- Changes save as you make them. A lowered limit waits instead, and the foot of the sheet says how many this save lowers.
- Press "Continue" and choose what to keep: "Keep the old values for everyone for now" until a date (a grace period), and/or "Keep workspaces over a new value on their old one", until a date or for good. Then press "Save plan".
Add a temporary limit
- On the plan's row, open its "Actions for" menu and choose "Temporary limits" - or open the "Temporary limits" tab of a plan you are editing.
- Press "Add temporary limit", give it a "Name" and choose its "Kind": a Promotion, a Grace period or a Beta (one Beta per plan at a time).
- Set "Starts" and "Ends" (empty ends for good) and the limits it raises.
- Press "Save temporary limit". The "Kept limits" tab shows which workspaces kept old values.
Good to know
- An unlimited limit is still listed on the customer's Plan & usage page. "Other limits" adds a key a module introduced that this build does not list.
- Raised limits only add: everyone gets the most generous value active now - the plan's, a temporary limit or their workspace's override.
- Choosing nothing to keep applies the new limits from the next check. Nobody loses what they hold either way.
- People over a limit when a raise ends are told in their inbox 14 and 3 days before.
If something goes wrong
- "Limits cannot be negative." / "Choose at least one limit to keep."
- "This plan already has a Beta limit; change that one instead."
- "This plan does not limit {metric}, so there is nothing to raise.": set the limit on the plan first.
- On a private installation: "The license in place sets {metric} to {limit}. A plan cannot go above it."
