See and control a private installation's failure reports
On {{brand}} Private, every crash report is shown under Admin › Failure reports before anything leaves, and you can stop one from being sent.
In short
A private installation can tell its vendor about its own crashes - only if its operator chooses to. Each report holds the version, the error type, the route and the code lines involved: no request data, no person and no file path. Every report appears under Admin › "Failure reports" before anything leaves.
Before you start
- Who: a site admin reads and controls reports; the operator chooses the mode in the configuration.
- Plan: only a private installation has failure reports.
- First: the operator must set FailureReports:Mode to Keep or Send; the default is Off.
Steps
- Open the admin console and choose "Failure reports".
- Read the mode line: "Reporting is off", "Reports are kept here only" or "Reports are sent".
- Open a report and read "Exactly what leaves".
- Press "Don't send" to keep it here, or "Save as file" to pass it on yourself.
Result: the report shows "Not sent", or "Sent" with when it left.
Good to know
- In "Reports are sent" mode a report leaves 15 minutes after it appears, unless someone presses "Don't send".
- The same failure is counted while it waits instead of making new reports, and at most 200 are kept a day.
- When the vendor has fixed it, the report shows "Fixed in" with the version.
Details for your IT team
The operator chooses the mode in the configuration with FailureReports:Mode - Off (the default), Keep or Send. It is not changed in the admin console.
If something goes wrong
- "Reporting is off, so none are kept." - the operator has not chosen Keep or Send.
- A report says "Could not be sent": the installation could not reach the address; it tries again.
