Choose how notifications reach you
Set Instant, Digest or Muted for each module, refine Chat and Planner, and turn on device notifications.
In short
Choose how each module's notifications reach you: Instant, Digest or Muted. Chat and Planner can be refined further, and you can turn on pop-up notifications on each phone or computer.
Before you start
- Who: anyone signed in, for their own notifications.
- Plan: none. Notices about your plan's limits always arrive.
- First: for device notifications, a browser that can show them.
Choose how a module notifies you
- Open Settings › "Notifications". "All products" comes first.
- Pick "Instant", "Digest" or "Muted" there to set every product at once. A line under it names the products set differently, such as "Set differently: Chat".
- To set one product apart, open "Change one product" and pick for that product alone. The choice saves at once.
Turn on phone and desktop notifications
- Under "Phone and desktop notifications" press "Turn on for this device".
- Allow notifications when your browser asks.
- The device appears under "Your devices". "Remove" stops notifications there.
Good to know
- Every module starts on Instant. Notices about your plan's limits always arrive.
- A module that is off for you, or switched off by your organization or team, shows no notifications while you work there.
- Chat: a conversation's own setting (All messages, Mentions only or Muted, from its menu) narrows the module's. Chat set to Muted silences every conversation.
- Planner: turn on reminders about due cards and a daily digest at the time you pick. With Planner on Digest, due-card reminders stop and the daily digest comes anyway. A reminder you set on an item still fires.
- Device notifications show monitor failures, mentions in Chat and on cards, and Planner reminders, for modules on Instant. Each device is turned on by itself, up to 10.
- Quiet hours: turn them on under "Quiet hours" and pick a start and an end. Nothing pops up on your devices in those hours, in the time zone set in Appearance; your inbox still gets everything. A start after the end, such as 22:00 to 07:00, runs past midnight.
- Mute: on a row of your inbox page, Mute stops that one record, stops notifications like it, or keeps them in your inbox with no pop-ups. It works from the next notification on. Start one again under "Muted" on this page.
Example Your team's channel is busy all day. Set Chat to Digest: its messages collect in the inbox without raising the bell, a direct mention still counts, and one email lists unread messages at most once a day.
If something goes wrong
- "Notifications are blocked for this site in your browser settings.": allow them in the browser's site settings, then turn them on here.
- "This browser cannot show notifications from a website.": try Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, or install the app.
- On an iPhone or iPad: open the site in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen, and open the app from there (iOS 16.4 or later).
- "Phone and desktop notifications are not set up on this server yet.": ask the site's administrator.
