Record a UI track with the extension
Do a task once in the browser and let {{brand}} turn your steps into a UI Tester track.
In short
Do a task once in your browser and the extension turns your clicks and typing into steps of a UI Tester track. You start and stop the recording from {{brand}}.
Before you start
- Who: you need to be able to edit the site's tracks. Only one person can record a track at a time.
- Plan: UI Tester is part of every plan.
- First: the extension, a site with an environment and at least one allowed origin.
Record a track
- Open the track in UI Tester and press "Record". The page checks the extension, the environment where recording starts and the origins it may capture on.
- Press "Start recording". It lasts up to 30 minutes, and the page counts down.
- Open the site's start page in a tab yourself and do the task once. Each element you act on flashes a red outline.
- Press "Stop & review" to see the new steps marked on the track. "Stop" keeps them unmarked; "Stop and delete these steps" throws the recording away.
Good to know
- The site needs an environment and at least one allowed origin, and you need to be able to edit its tracks.
- Only one person can record a track at a time, and not while a Browser Sync recording is running.
- Password fields and fields named like keys, tokens, card numbers or one-time codes become {{secret}}. Everything else is kept as typed, and screenshots show what is visible.
If something goes wrong
- The checklist says the extension is missing: install and connect it, then refresh the page.
- No steps arrive: you acted on an origin that is not allowed, or in another tab. Add the origin in the site's settings and record again.
- Someone else is recording the track: wait until they stop.
