Replay the sample UI test

Replay a ready test on the built-in practice shop, step by step, before you add a site of your own.

In short

A ready test on the practice shop that comes with {{brand}} lets you watch a replay before you add a site of your own. On the first screen, the "Sample test" card replays it on a server and shows each step with its screenshot. If you may not add the sample site to a shared workspace, UI Tester opens on "Watch the demo (not saved)" instead. It is the same idea, drawn on the page, with nothing saved for the team.

Before you start

• Who: anyone with UI Tester on. Replaying the sample needs permission to run UI tests; the demo drawing needs none.
• Plan: none for the demo drawing.
• First: nothing. The sample replay needs a browser on the server; the card says when there is none.

Steps

1. Open UI Tester. With no site yet, the first screen shows the "Sample test" card, marked "Practice shop", and the four steps it does.
2. Press "Replay". The practice shop is drawn as the test sees it, and each step turns to Passed. Nothing needs installing.
3. To keep it, press "Add this test to my workspace". It opens with Run beside its steps; a real run needs the extension or the CLI.
4. When you are ready, press "Add your own site" in the strip above the sample.

Result: you have seen how a test opens a page and checks what appears. "Record your own" on the first screen is the way to your own site.

When you may not add the sample

If you may not add the sample site to a shared workspace, the first screen shows "Watch the demo (not saved)", marked "Only you", instead of the "Sample test" card. Nothing runs on a server.

1. Press "Replay the demo". The practice shop is drawn as the test sees it, and each step turns to Passed in turn.
2. Read the verdict line, such as "7 of 7 steps passed". Press "Replay again" to watch once more.
3. Press "Open the practice page" to open the real page in a new tab.

Good to know

• The sample replay shows the practice shop as the test sees it, and needs nothing installed.
• The demo drawing is not a browser run. The real practice page runs for real once you add a site that points at it.
• If your system asks for reduced motion, the finished demo replay shows at once.
• The demo test is the same one the "Practice shop" tests use: the page is up, search returns results, and sign-in shows an error.

If something goes wrong

• "Open the practice page" shows nothing: the practice page is not served on this installation. The demo itself still plays.
